  1. MOON RIDER - A black ink and gray pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size vellum paper. It appears as Plate 9 in my art folio, "Fabian in Color," published by Starmont House in 1980. The art folio was published in a softcover and a hardcover edition. This drawing was included only in the signed hardcover edition.

I am a moon rider, a science fiction fan. On occasion though, I read historical, western, mystery, or adventure novels. And when a biography comes along about a person I think is interesting, I read that too . . .

I just finished reading, "Killing Jesus," by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard. The book was written as a slice of history, covering the events of the Roman Empire leading up to, and including the Crucifixion of the man known as Jesus Christ.

What is astonishing is that the man did not travel far and wide and preach to large masses of people, he spoke locally, to relatively small groups, he had no organization at all, only a handful of followers who scattered after his death and tried to spread his message of love, hope, and truth. And for that, they also met ugly deaths.

And yet, the teachings of Jesus spread far and wide, and in time he became the most famous man on earth. The existence of God, or the truth about the man called Jesus does not depend on our believing in them. What really matters is knowing that without them nothing matters except what happens to us only while we are alive on this planet. And then, when we die, as Peggy Lee once sang so long ago, so hauntingly . . . IS THAT ALL THERE IS?

Believing in God may be difficult, but "hoping" He exists is not.
I hope so. Otherwise, it's Yes, Peggy, THAT . . . IS ALL THERE IS!
